If you can't make my stamp camp - you can make your own Tissue Box Cover at home...

I used the Northern Flurry Embossing & Polka Dot Embossing Folders.

Base: 2 @ 5-1/8 x 9-1/2 - score at 1/2 & 5 - use liquid glue to glue the two panels together.

Lid: 6-9/16 x 6-9/16 - score at 1" on all sides - cut the tabs - run through the Big Shot with the 3" circle die in the center. Glue tabs together.

Put base over your tissue box - tissue boxes can be different heights (I found this out the hard way). Put glue on edges of lid and place on top of box.

Layers for sides:
4 @ 4-1/4 x 4 (box)
4 @ 4-1/4 x 3/4 (layers for side of lid)
1 @ 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 (layer for top - run through Big Shot on 3" circle die)
1 @ 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 (punch with Decorative Label Punch in the middle and layer on top over hole for kleenex)

Emboss and sponge your side panels - stamp your image and glue to sides of box. Do the same with the little layers on the sides of the box top.

The Crop-A-Dile

The Crop-A-Dile is one of the handiest tools! You can punch through chipboard, tin, and multiple layers with ease. One of the most important things to know about the Crop-A-Dile is how to set it for the item you want to do. The instructions came on the back of the package, but if you didn't save them (or can't find them), here is a cheat sheet for you.

Instructions:

1. Grab your Crop-A-Dile. Determine the necessary hold size. Set hole depth using the depth gauge near the punch. Insert paper, chipboard, leather, metal, or any material - thick or thin and punch.

2. Select your snap, eyelet or metal embellishment. Determine the correct TOP and BASE combinations ( see below) for the type of metal embellishment selected, and rotate to the correct position. NOTE: the correct position is where the letters are facing each other in the Crop-A-Dile.

3. Place snap, eyelet, or other embellishments in the hole. Line up the BASE of the Crop-A-Dile in the hole of the snap or eyelet and compress.

Note: The back side of your snap or eyelet may be bent, curled or look smashed, which is totally normal. Non-uniform crimping may occur depending on the type of metal embellishment used and how well you line up the tool when crimping. Warning: Failure to follow instructions for usage may result in damage of this tool and will void manufacturer warranty.

TOP and BASE Combinations:

Top:
A - 3/16" eyelet setter. For all 3/16" standard and over sized eyelets.
B - 1/8" round snap setter. Dish shaped for all 1/8" round standard snaps.
C - 1/8" eyelet setter. For all 1/8" standard and over sized eyelets.
D - Flat setter. For all over sized, miscellaneous and square shaped metal embellishments and snaps.
Bottom:

1 - Large/Extra large eyelet and snap flare. For all 3/16" standard and over sized eyelets and snaps.
2 - Medium eyelet and snap flake. For other non-standard and miscellaneous eyelets and snaps.
3 - Small eyelet and snap flare. For all 1/8" standard eyelets and snaps.
4 - Cone shaped flare. For snaps and eyelets where the eyelet tube is not completely hollow and for other miscellaneous cast metal eyelets and snap shapes.
Now that you know how to set it, what else can you do with the Crop-A-Dile?

To punch two different sizes of holes through just about ANY material (even metal), set the depth so that you get even spacing from the edge to your hole every time.

Punch extra holes in a leather belt.

Punch air holes in the lids of jars for kids to put bugs in.

Emboss little designs on a card (use setting A-2).

Technique Thursday

Emboss Resist

Directions:

1) Stamp and heat emboss your image. Allow image to cool.

2) Apply ink directly to the paper (over and around the embossed image) using a sponge or brayer.

3) Wipe the embossed image with a tissue to remove the excess ink.

Variation: Watercolor Resist

Once you've embossed an image, scribble around and over the image using a Watercolor Wonder Crayon, and blend using an Aqua Painter. Wipe the color from the embossed image, and allow to dry completely.

BAM Stamping Technique

How many times have you wanted to stamp 3 images in a row and the first two are perfectly straight and the last one ends up crooked???? Major frustration! This technique was introduced to us at our Regional Conference last weekend in Minneapolis. My Upline Kelly Acheson put this together to share with you.

Here is how you do it....line your images up on an extra large acrylic block...test stamp on a scrap and make any adjustments necessary before you go to your good cardstock - SIMPLE!
It gets better - READ ON!

Now you need to do the 2-Step Stamping part of your card...and the Aviary stamp set is perfect for this! Line up your birds on top of the bird cage acrylic block so they're placed perfectly in the cages...then push another Acrylic Block down on top of them so they stick...what do you have? All three birds, perfectly placed so you can stamp away!!!

Kelly wanted the birds to be different colors - the Stampin' Spots are the perfect solution. The 1" x 1" ink pads are not only affordable, but the perfect size for this project!!! She used More Mustard, Rose Red and Not Quite Navy. They come in our regular Color Collections - Brights, Subtles, Regals & Nuetrals!!! So you get 8-10 colors in each pack for $15.95 to $19.95. They're also perfect for traveling!!!

While your at it - why not stamp the birds again on the inside of your card?

Greetings Everyone!

You may have noticed that I changed the name of my blog to The Stamping Spot. The reason is because effective December 1, 2010 I will be holding my classes at my new stamping studio which I named The Stamping Spot. This name was suggested to me by my Stampin' Up! sideline sister Shelley Olson....THANKS SHELLEY!!!!

Making perfect circles has never been simpler! I used to draw circles the hard way—I’d find a lid or jar that was the size I needed for my circle, then I’d trace around it. Now all I do is put my pen in the tool and turn the handle. I end up with a perfect circle every time—no more squiggly lines! And cutting a circle is just as easy. All I do is select the circle size and turn the cutting handle. The circles come out perfectly every time, with no jagged edges.

Quick Trick

If you love the look of circle frames, you don’t need to buy separate die-cut circle frames or rings. When cutting rings, cut the smaller circle, or the center of the ring, first, and then don’t move the cutter. Make sure it stays in place while you adjust the size for the outside circle of your ring, and then cut again. Keeping the cutter in place the whole time is the key to making perfect rings. You’ll end up with a custom frame or ring in the size and color you want.
For a great look, you can cut circles of different sizes in coordinating paper and layer them on your scrapbook pages.

FYI

Always use with Glass Mat. Using the Circle Scissor Plus with a self-healing mat may result in poor results. Glass mats allow the blade to "float" across the cutting surface for a cleaner, better cut.

For best results, cut though a single sheet of paper or card stock at a time.
You may want to adhere your paper to the Glass Mat with temporary adhesive to prevent it from slipping on the mat.

The gripper base is not sized to fully grip the edges of anything smaller than 6", and you may find your smaller pieces of paper spinning around instead of cutting. To cut paper smaller than 6", lightly tack it to the Glass Mat using temporary adhesive.

The Circle Scissor Plus works most smoothly when you’re standing up and when you keep your arm parallel to the tool. This helps distribute the weight and pressure on the cutter evenly, resulting in the cleanest cut and most perfect circle.

Cut at a regular speed-you don't need to cut slowly or quickly. Also, use light pressure—you don't need to push down hard.

New Stamping Class Added!

I will be holding an additional stamping class on the fourth Thursday each month starting February 25th. We will meet at Basic Cafe in Oshkosh at 6:00.

Each month we will create a 3-D project and a card. The cost is $12 per person unless otherwise stated. Pre-registration and payment is required for all classes.

I retain a no-cancellation policy. If for some reason you can not make it to a class you have registered and payed for, I will make your projects for you providing you let me know prior to the start of class.

This is the project we will be making on February 25th. It is a cool notepad holder with pen and mini milk can to hold your Easter treats or trinkets. This is just a sample picture, you will have a variety of paper and embellishments to use to create your own look. We will also make a card to complete the ensemble.

Stamping is for more than just paper!

Today I am sharing with you an awesome idea that I got from Samantha Strachan……Stamping on candles. These make great thank you gifts for friends, co-workers, family or anyone you want to give a little something extra to. SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Heating Tool

Stamp of your choice (Cardnial is from the Stampin' Up A Cardinal Christmas stamp set)

Basic Black Classic ink

Tissue Paper

Pillar Candle

Stampin' Up markers

Wax paper

Scrap paper

Scissors

STEPS:

1. Stamp your image onto tissue paper with scrap paper under your tissue paper. The scrap paper will absorb the extra ink since the tissue paper is thin.

2. Color in your stamped image with Stampin' UP markers if desired.

3. Cut out around the stamped image, you don't have to get close, just cut out around the image somewhat close to the edges of the image.

4. Turn your candle on its side and place your stamp image where you would like it to be on your candle.

5. Cover the area tightly with your wax paper, waxy side against the candle.

6. Gently heat with the heating tool until the tissue paper melts into the candle. This does not take very long so be careful.

7. Let the candle sit a second or two and then gently unwrap the wax paper from the candle.

What Kind Of Ink Should I Use?

Frequently Asked Question!

Classic Dye Based Ink: This is the ink I use most often because it is quick drying and suits most stamping. This water based ink works great on card stock and papers. I also often use it with an aquapainter for water coloring.

Craft Ink "Pigment": Craft ink is wetter and contains pigment which makes it more opaque. This ink is great for scrapbooks and can be used on wood, fabric and other craft projects. It is good for scrapbooking because it is slow drying. Heat set with a heat tool to speed up the drying time.

Versamark " Watermark Ink: This ink is great for making tone-on-tone designs, resist stamping and heat embossing and great for the Poppin' Pastels technique. To see the Poppin' Pastels technique book a workshop and I’ll teach you.

Stazon: Permanent solvent ink. This ink is very permanent and I use it on nonporous surfaces like glass, cellophane bags, glossy paper and window sheet. This ink is great for images to be water colored because it does not run.

E ncore: Metallic Pigment ink. These inks add a little glitz and shimmer to your projects. These inks do not dry well on glossy, coated and other nonporous surfaces.

STAMP CLUB DETAILS: Stampin' UP! Stamp Clubs are a great way to build your collection & give you an opportunity to make new friends that share your interest in stamping. Even if you have never stamped before, this would be a great way to start - and you will be hooked! I will be teaching you new layouts and techniques every month.

Here is how the stamp club works: I am looking for 10 members who are willing to spend a minimum of $15.00 (plus shipping and tax) each month for 10 months. (We will not meet in July or December). Each month the club orders will amount to at least $150 which qualifies for hostess benefits of a free hostess level 1 stamp set and $15.00 in free SU! products. Every month we will rotate the hostess who gets the free hostess goodies so that everyone gets them once. Everyone will receive a FREE catalog!! During your month, you can get even greater hostess benefits by getting orders from your friends and family that are not in your stamp club.

Payment will be through cash, check, money order, or credit cards. Orders and payment will be due the night your club meets. If you are not able to attend that’s ok….just email me your order prior to class. I will make the projects for you and put them with your order.

If you have any questions please let me know. There are 10 spots total and when they fill, I will start another club.
